Metis Nation Saskatchewan has declared a state of emergency due to the rate at which wildfires are forcing the evacuation of northern residents.

The MN-S says the Muskeg fire, mainly impacting Beauval, has grown to more than 221 thousand hectares, whereas the Buhl fire at Weyakwin is just 38 thousand hectares in size, but it has garnered more attention from both the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency and the Government of Canada.

The MN-S calls on the Province to engage with them immediately and provide the resources and supports needed to protect their land and uphold their rights.

There are currently 50 wildfires burning in Saskatchewan, 14 of which are not contained. There are also 10 active evacuations incidents.
