The premier of Saskatchewan and Alberta traveled to Huntsville, Ontario Tuesday morning to sign a memorandum of understanding with Premier Doug Ford.

The MOU aims to create new avenues to reach domestic and international markets. Specific initiatives include coordinating the safe transportation and export of Western Canadian oil, natural gas and critical minerals, explore multiple pipeline and rail corridors, and the expansion of processing hubs for critical minerals.

Ford spoke about the agreement Tuesday, calling on the Prime Minister to do his part to reduce red tape.

“Canada’s premiers are stepping up. Now, we need the federal government to do its part. We need the federal government to fix its broken regulatory environment and streamline approvals.”

Tuesday’s agreement follows Saskatchewan’s decision to sign trade and mutual recognition MOUs with Manitoba and PEI, Monday. Last week, Premier Scott Moe also called on all provinces and territories to join Canada’s largest barrier-free interprovincial market, the New West Partnership Trade Agreement.
