UPDATE:  Several protesters who remained at a camp at the Saskatchewan legislature have been arrested after a deadline for them to leave the site passed.  The tipi was also removed Monday afternoon.

The protest camp on the grounds outside the Saskatchewan Legislature remains. Despite an order to disassemble everything by noon Sunday, protestors decided to keep their tipi standing. Camp spokesperson Robyn Pitawanakwat says this decision shows Indigenous people have had enough of settler colonialism.

“We need to stand our ground, we need to stay where our people can find us.”

Pitawanakwat says they want justice for the stolen children and Indigenous children in care to be returned to their homes.

“The rates of apprehension in this province are incredibly high and we have more indigenous children in state-care now than we did at the height of residential schools.”

She says they are “needed” at the grounds. The camp’s other tents were taken down on Friday morning by Regina Police. (CKRM Jun 18/18)
