Reading the throne speech Tuesday, King Charles touched on Canadian sovereignty several times. He said, “The Prime Minister and the President of the United States, for example, have begun defining a new economic and security relationship between Canada and the United States rooted in mutual respect and founded on common interests to deliver transformational benefits for both sovereign nations.”
Meanwhile, the speech went on to confirm Canada is joining the ReArm Europe plan. The defence procurement project will ramp up arms production in Europe and boost transatlantic security by investing with Canada’s European partners.
The Throne speech sets out the goals for the government in the spring sitting of the House of Commons and that included a pledge to a new fiscal discipline in that the government’s operating budget has been growing by 9 per cent every year, now the federal government will introduce measures to bring it below 2 per cent.
The speech also outlined the introduction of an immigration cap and a housing commitment.
King Charles concluded the speech saying, “the true North is indeed strong and free.”
