The University of Saskatchewan’s fundraising campaign for a new Engineering Design Hub has received another large donation.
Cenovus Energy contributed $1.5 million to what will soon be dubbed the Cenovus Energy Makerspace in the existing Hardy Lab at the College of Engineering.
The University says two thirds of the donation will go towards physical renovations and expansions, while the remaining third will be put towards programming.
The space will feature a fabrication area with polymer 3D printers and laser cutters and an area specifically designed for testing prototypes and design projects. Once finished, the Hub will be the largest hands-on engineering laboratory at any Canadian university.
Plans for the Hub also include the development of a capstone design space, shops for metals, wood, plastic, composite and electronics, as well as a student design garage bay. USask’s Be What the World Needs campaign is set to wrap up next month.
