After more than 15 hours, a 46 year old man, who had barricaded himself inside a home on the 15 hundred block of Hilliard Street East, was taken into custody by Saskatoon Police. The incident began around 7:30 Wedneday morning when police were told a man was damaging a city grader. It’s alleged he threw what appeared to be an incendiary device at the grader and then further damaged the vehicle with a baseball bat. The grader operator fled the scene on foot as did the suspect. A short time later, the same suspect is alleged to have tried to interfere with a street sweeper as it arrived to clear debris from the damaged grader. By then, police were trying to take the man into custody but were unsuccessful. Later that afternoon, police realizes he was barricaded in his residence and the Tactical Support Unit, Crisis Negotiators, the Canine Unit, and patrol officers all descended on the scene and traffic restrictions were put in place as police waited out the suspect. The incident came to a peaceful resolution at 11 o’clock last night.
