The provincial government has announced that all 60 inpatient treatment spaces are now available at the new addictions treatment centre near Lumsden – the Willowview Recovery Centre. This is about a year later than was originally expected.

A government news release from January of last year announcing the new treatment centre estimated it would open in the spring of 2024, but there were delays because of building enhancements needed for fire safety. Last fall, the centre opened to “intensive day treatment care” with staff available for support after hours. The Willowview recovery Centre opened its doors to 20 inpatient spaces in January and on April 1st began filling the rest of the beds.

Mental Health and Addictions Minister Lori Carr says, “Patients will receive holistic, wrap-around addictions treatment for up to 16 weeks to support their recovery journey”. She adds that to date, 264 of the 500 new spaces under the Saskatchewan’s Action Plan for Mental Health and Addictions are now available.

Willowview was formerly Living Skies Retreat & Conference Centre and previous to that it was the St. Michael’s Retreat site established by the Franciscan Friars of Western Canada in 1963.
