Saskatoon playwright, Jenna Berenbaum will experience her very first world premiere as a writer, with her play 18 Jews Order Chinese Food on Persephone Theatre’s Main Stage, beginning Wednesday. She says she came up with the idea ten years ago when the family was getting together prior to her Great Uncle’s funeral.
They all piled into her Great Aunt’s apartment to order Chinese food and chaos ensued, and she thought, “I have to write a play about this”. The first night on Wednesday is also the kick-off to the Saskatchewan Jewish Arts Festival. Berenbaum says, “It’s so wonderful to feel the support of the community behind your work, and I feel really proud of my work and proud of everyone who’s involved in it. So, I’m very excited to show that Saskatchewan has great writers and great actors, and we can tell hilarious stories, too.”
What she wants people to know is that it’s a comedy, it’s a lot of fun and she promises you will laugh. The play runs this Wednesday through February 16th and tickets are available through the Persephone Theatre box office or online through the theatre’s website.
