Putting child predators in jail and getting children out of a horrible situation. That’s why Cpl. Jared Clark is an officer with the Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation Unit, despite the heavy emotional toll of the job. The Unit includes members of the RCMP and the Saskatoon, Regina and Prince Albert Police Services. Cpl. Clark says if what you witness as an officer doesn’t phase you, it’s time to have a look in the mirror. To get past that though, you’ve got to remember the end goal of rescuing children. That’s what gets you through. Clark was able to meet some of the children he helped while in the Philippines recently, as an expert witness in a case where a Saskatoon man was found guilty of paying women online to abuse children while he watched. In this particular case, 9 children were rescued. Clark says seeing those children in the worst situation and then being able to see them enjoying some food and toys and having a visit with them is something he will always carry with him. Another thing Clark was able to do while in the Philippines was provide some training to police officers on how to run these investigations, hopefully leading to more successful outcomes in that country.
