City administration will be bringing forward a series of recommendations to the Environment, Utilities and Corporate Services Committee today (mon). One of those recommendations is a “Pay-As-You-Throw” garbage collection program. That would mean residents who elect to have a smaller bin would pay less for garbage collection and those who chose to have a larger bin would pay more. The largest bin available to residents would be the current 360-litre sized bin. The city administration is making a recommendation that the city changes its taxi bylaw to charge passengers who make messes in cabs. The administration is proposing that the bylaw include a $100 dollar cleaning fee for passengers who vomit or urine in a taxi cab. The cleaning fee would then be applied to the fare if bodily fluids are left in the cab. City administration is recommending that cab drivers submit video evidence when there’s an instance when the cleaning fee is charged. There would also be a formal appeal process for passengers who choose to dispute the fee. The topic is set to be discussed at today’s (mon) transportation committee meeting.
