It has been one week since a large homeless encampment was closed on the south side of Prince Albert.
The work was a collaborative effort between the City of Prince Albert, the P.A Police Service and the PA Metis Women’s Outreach Team.
The encampment was in a secluded wooded area and had tents, open fires, latrine pits and an underground dwelling resembling a root cellar.
PA City bylaw officers went to the encampment on October 8th and notified the occupants that they would have to move. The area was cleared the following day with Police maintaining the peace while the outreach staff met with occupants and connected them to support services.
Sanitation workers removed three truckloads and one trailer worth of waste. The underground structure is being demolished because it poses a safety hazard.
