While at a campaign announcement in Saskatoon, reporters asked the Sask Party leader about a comment from the former Speaker at the legislature, Randy Weekes, who said on Tuesday that the Sask Party candidate for Saskatoon Westview had uttered a racial slur when repeating a story in the caucus office that someone else had said. Weekes was told about the racial slur by someone who overheard the conversation.
Moe stated that it happened about a year-and-a-half ago and all the procedures were followed. David Buckingham apologized to those that heard the conversation, to caucus staff and to caucus and also received sensitivity training. Buckingham also apologized again today, while at the same announcement with Moe and other Sask Party candidates, saying, “It was a really dumb mistake, something that’s not okay. You know we are a country of inclusivity and my comments, talking about that, were completely, completely inappropriate.” Buckingham is running for a third term as a Sask Party MLA.
