Saskatoon residents woke up to a mix of fog and wildfire smoke Monday morning. There is an air quality advisory and heat warning in effect with Environment and Climate Change Canada saying the combination of heat and very poor air quality in smoke will increase the risk to your health. On Sunday, there was an air quality value of 10-plus in Buffalo Narrows, Prince Albert and Saskatoon. Anything above 10 is considered very high risk.
Wildfire smoke is causing or expected to cause very poor air quality and reduced visibility. There are 105 wildfires burning in Saskatchewan this morning and 15 are not contained. There have been 407 so far this year while 274 is the five-year average.
A prolonged period of extreme heat has been occurring in Saskatchewan with daytime high temperatures reaching 32 degrees Celsius and above, and overnight lows near 16 degrees Celsius which is forecast to continue through till Thursday. The forecast high for Friday is 10 degrees cooler than the 32 degrees Celsius the day prior.
