The Saskatchewan NDP claims that half of Saskatoon’s hospital beds are going unused due to Sask. Party mismanagement.
Official Opposition Leader Carla Beck looked to a study done by the Canadian Institute of Health Information, which she says calculated occupancy rates for hospital beds that are staffed and in use based on the most recent provincial government data from 2022-23.
When averaged together, the occupancy rates of Saskatoon’s hospitals are 52 per cent, and the national average is 76 per cent occupied.
The report says Saskatoon City Hospital shows the lowest occupancy rate in the city, with 36 per cent. Royal University and Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital beds come in at 54 per cent occupied, and St. Paul’s Hospital beds are 66 per cent full.
