A Saskatoon Provincial Court judge has ruled that a woman who admitted to police that she had microdosed magic mushrooms and had vaped cannabis in the 24 hours prior to a fatal accident, is admissible. Nine-year-old Baeleigh Maurice was hit by Taylor Ashley Kennedy’s truck at a crosswalk on 33rd Street in September of 2021. Baeleigh was riding her scooter on her way to school when she was hit.
There was a voir dire, or trial within a trial, about whether Kennedy’s comments should be admissible. The trial will now resume again next Tuesday. Taylor Kennedy is the first in the province to be charged with impaired driving while exceeding the prescribed blood-drug concentration of THC causing death.
