More firsts for the Saskatoon Berries on Saturday!
One night after winning the first-ever Western Canadian Baseball League game in franchise history with a 5-0 triumph in Weyburn, the Berries followed up with their initial home-field victory Saturday, out-scoring the Lethbridge Bulls 16-10. After being held off the scoreboard in the first two innings, and falling behind 5-0 in the top of the third inning, Saskatoon posted runs in each of the next six frames to send the Cairns Field crowd home happy. First baseman Ethan Menard started the Berries’ comeback with the first-ever grand slam home run in franchise history in the bottom of the third inning. Menard also provided the game winning RBI in the bottom of the seventh when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to give Saskatoon an 11-10 lead. Designated hitter Payton McHarg followed with a bases-clearing double and the Berries continued on to their second straight victory. The same teams will play Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
