Saskatoon has been shortlisted in the Smart Cities Challenge. Ottawa has been asking for ideas on how to improve life in Canada through technology and data.
By being selected a finalist in the competition, the City of Saskatoon has been awarded 2-hundred-50-thousand dollars to more fully develop its proposal to address Indigenous youth incarceration. The city is working on an app that could be a connection hub for youth.
It would have information on things like access to housing, recreation, counseling or addictions appointments.
For example, a youth that is homeless could check the app for a place to sleep.
The final proposals are due in the coming winter with winners being announced in early 2019. There are two prizes of 10 million dollars available to be won in the population of under 5-hundred thousand residents.
