The operators for the province’s 51 cannabis retail store permits have been selected and the government says more than two-thirds are from Saskatchewan or have operations in the province.
The successful licensees were selected through a two phase Request for Proposal. First they were screened based financial and sales/inventory tracking systems. Those that made it to the second phase were selected by a lottery draw.
Those who have been granted permits to operate a cannabis retail outlet have 45 days to get that permitting process underway and they must be operating within 12 months of legalization.
Cannabis retail stores must be standalone operations and are subject to local municipal zoning bylaws.
