In a 24-hour period over May 8th and 9th, Parkland Ambulance responded to 8 overdoses within the Prince Albert and Wahpeton Dakota Nation area.

Parkland Ambulance states there is an elevated risk of overdose and death from drugs in the region. In most cases, the substance in question is unknown, however in one case, Carfentanil is a suspected substance, and may have been taken by IV injection.

Naloxone was administered in 6 of the 8 reported overdose cases.
