The Executive Director of the Broadway Business Improvement District feels a recommendation from the Canadian Federation of Independent Business is a step in the right direction. DeeAnn Mercier endorses their idea of municipal compensation plans for small and medium businesses affected by construction. Mercier says businesses in their district lost hundreds of thousands of dollars over the past two years due to water main replacements. She would also like to see construction contract language include expediency clauses like off-hours work to open up storefronts as quickly as possible. The C-F-I-B points to a $15-million mitigation fund in Seattle to compensate businesses affected by construction of a new light-rail line.
