The Provincial Métis Council of Métis Nation-Saskatchewan is withdrawing its support of a federal bill that would provide potential self-government rights for the MN-S, the Métis Nation of Ontario and the Métis Nation of Alberta.

MN-S President Glen McCallum says the “one-size-fits-all” approach doesn’t recognize the unique context of MN-S and the Bill exposed the legislation to legal and political pressures due to outstanding issues in Alberta and Ontario, so the legislation has been stalled. A statement from McCallum says he is committed to fulfilling Louis Riel’s vision and dream of achieving self-government for the Metis Nation. MN-S leadership has decided to make creating a comprehensive Treaty, alongside the Canadian government, its top priority.
