Canadians looking to learn more about biomass and the transition to a low-carbon economy can do so, for free, through Saskatchewan Polytechnic.

Ann Reinhart with Sask. Polytechnic says the institute has partnered with Quick Train Canada to provide four, free, online micro-credentials.

“In the biomass sector, it’s preparing for that clean energy sector for the future. Here, there’re those four free micro-credentials that are all focused on biomass. There is biomass production, handling, storage, and supply chain distribution,” she explains.

They each take about 15 hours to complete and are perfect for those who have a busy lifestyle, but still love to learn.

“The majority of them are asynchronous, or in other words, you can work at your own pace. So, it’s great for someone who may have other things in their life that are causing them not to be able to fully invest in a program, yet you can take a micro-credential to help you get that small pocket of learning that fits into your needs and into your life.”

Reinhart says the program is targeted at both the inexperienced and the pros.

“Canadians are looking at ‘how do I understand these topics?’, or ‘how do I apply this to my current work?’. Whether you have never understood the topic (of) biomass, you could take it as a way to learn or to upskill,” she assures. “Or those that are currently working in that sector can also use it to reskill. It’s a great way to take it, as a professional development option.”

Upon completion of the micro-credential, you get an electronic badge that can be used on resumes and job account profiles.
