Saskatchewan’s teachers are giving 48 hours’ notice for the next round of rotating strikes, as well as which locations will be affected.
On Wednesday, February 7, the Creighton, Northern Lights, Prairie Spirit, Greater Saskatoon Catholic, and Saskatoon Public school divisions will be going on strike.
The job action will impact about 4,300 teachers and will affect classes for roughly 65,300 students.
“Government thinks they can wait us out, but they have failed to account for the most important factors. Teachers are fed up and are united,’ says Saskatchewan Teacher’s federation President Samantha Becotte.
She adds that the government needs to catch up with the people of this province.
Those concerned about the impacts of job sanctions or the future of publicly funded schools in the province are encouraged to sign up for Tell Them Tuesday. The STF news release says tens of thousands of people from across the province will be calling on the Government of Saskatchewan and local MLAs to get the government’s bargaining committee back to the table with teachers.
Strike action includes Conseil des écoles fransaskoises schools and Saskatchewan Distance Learning Centre teachers who work at a school or regional campus within the geographic boundaries of the public-school divisions listed above. This includes ÉCF Pavillon Gustave Dubois, ÉCF Pavillon Monique Rousseau, École Providence, DLC Far North Campus in La Ronge and DLC Central Campus in Saskatoon.
