SaskPower is building the largest solar facility to date in the Estevan area and has contracted an American company in partnership with Ocean Man First Nation in southeast Saskatchewan to construct and operate the 100-megawatt utility-scale solar facility.
Chief Connie Big Eagle says their partnership with Greenwood Sustainable Infrastructure and SaskPower will bring great opportunities for Ocean Man First Nation.
The project will be known as lyuhana Solar, which, in Nakotah translates to ‘all of us’ or ‘everyone’. Construction is scheduled to begin next year and the completion date is estimated to be December of 2026.
SaskPower plans to add at least 3,000 MW of wind and solar generation to the system by 2035.
