If you happen to be driving down the University Bridge or along Spadina Crescent by Kinsmen Park in Saskatoon you will now notice a regular spring/summer addition to the landscape right beside the South Saskatchewan River. The big white show tent is up which means Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan is in high gear preparing for its summer 2018 productions. I was at the site last Wednesday morning as the main tent was erected on a beautiful sunny day. The remainder of the site is being prepared and rehearsals are underway for this year’s plays. The Merry Wives of Windsor debuts July 4th and Hamlet begins July 5th. Both plays run until August 19. And this year something new and different has been added, a third play called Titus A., Puppet Revenge, featuring, you guessed it, puppets, being performed July 12-August 19 in a small tent in a corner of the Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan site. This puppet play does have a content warning and is suitable for ages 16 and up. Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan is an annual summer theatre festival in Saskatoon that is not to be missed.
