Canada’s Conservative leader describes the Trudeau government’s decision to exempt heating oil from the carbon tax as the Liberals’ latest divide and conquer strategy.
Pierre Poilievre says the federal government wants people to forget they can’t heat their homes or feed their kids or pay their rent.
“So, he’s going to vilify people in different parts of the country. He wants to turn you against your fellow Canadian, so you forget how miserable life has become after eight years of his government. His latest tactic is to charge higher carbon taxes on some people than on other people.”
Pointing to Saskatchewan and Manitoba, he says it is a divide and conquer strategy being condemned even by some New Democrats. In the Saskatchewan Legislature Monday there was unanimous approval on an NDP motion which called on federal leaders to remove the carbon tax on all forms of home heating. Speaking to his national caucus Wednesday morning Poilievre is challenging Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to a carbon tax election.
