The Saskatchewan RCMP are reminding children and parents alike of several Halloween safety tips ahead of the day.
The release says to make sure masks and other accessories don’t obstruct sight, and that costumes don’t pose a tripping risk. Reflective tape or a glow stick could be added to costumes, or children could carry a flashlight.
The RCMP advises that parents discuss trick-or-treating rules with kids before they leave the house. For older kids, a route should be arranged, as well as meeting/check-in times and places.
The release states that children should trick or treat in groups, stay on sidewalks, and cross roads only at intersections or crosswalks.
As for parents, they should check over their children’s candy hauls before they dive in, and when driving, be aware that excited kids may not have pedestrian safety at the top of their minds. Especially in residential neighborhoods, drivers are advised to slow down and pay attention.
