Following is the news release from P-B-R Canada…..
For the third consecutive season, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, will host the final regular-season event for the PBR Canada Cup Series, presented by Wrangler, as the nation’s premier bull riding tour takes over SaskTel Centre for two days of high-adrenaline action on Oct. 28-29.
As the final regular-season event, riders will be vying for coveted points as one of the most intense races to be crowned the PBR Canada Champion continues to unfurl. And this season, the Champion will be presented with a historic prize purse. As announced earlier this year, PBR Canada has double the Champion’s prize purse to $100,000, making the total purse at the Canadian Finals $225,000, the richest of any of PBR’s international finals.
And on the dirt, the competition has been fierce!
At present, the Top 5 riders are within 155 points of one another, while just 22 points separate the Top 3. Among the contenders are several chasing history:
- No. 1 Dakota Buttar (Eatonia, SK) leads the standings, 10.84 points ahead of No. 2 Cody Coverchuk (Meadow Lake, SK). While Buttar, who is currently sidelined with a broken collarbone, is attempting to become the fourth multi-time Champion in Canadian history, Coverchuk is looking to tie No. 5 Aaron Roy (Yellow Grass, SK) for most national titles won by one rider.
- Roy, however, is also attempting to further etch his name in the record books by becoming the first-ever four-time PBR Canada Champion in history. He is currently 155 points back of the top spot.
- Having led the standings for the majority of the season reigning PBR Canada Champion Nick Tetz (Calgary, AB) is attempting to become the first rider in history to win the title in back-to-back season. Tetz, who is currently 22 points back, is currently sidelined with a shoulder injury, however, is planning to make his return at the upcoming PBR event in Saskatoon.
