Sustainability and conservation in Saskatoon will continue to be a joint priority for the Meewasin Valley Authority and the University of Saskatchewan, as they have re-signed their Memorandum of Understanding.

Meewasin CEO Andrea Lafond says the MOU was first signed three years ago in an effort to advance shared initiatives to do with preserving the city’s natural beauty and ecological integrity. Lafond says the two entities have had a longstanding history of collaborations lasting 44 years.

Several ways the organizations collaborate currently include Meewasin hiring 8-10 USask students each year, as well as housing the largest greenhouse of native plant species, which has been located on the university’s campus since the 1980’s.

“There is a lot of interaction and a lot of opportunity to support students in their growth”, she states.

USask President Peter Stoicheff says, “This collaboration aligns perfectly with our mission to create a sustainable future for all.”
Lafond says the MOU solidifies the relationship into the form of mutual agreements, so that their joint work and collaborations can stand the test of time and continue on.
