The Saskatchewan Incident Response Team is investigating several injuries that were sustained during an arrest in Saskatoon last Thursday.
At 3:30am, a Saskatoon Police Service vehcile encountered another vehicle in the intercestion of Avenue R and 21st Street, which fled the scene as the officer turned to began a traffic stop.
Within seconds, police say the suspect vehicle left the road and crashed into a park bench. The 32-year-old occupant of the vehicle then fled on foot and was apprehended by a police service dog.
The man received a serious injury to his arm as a result, and he was taken to hospital where he was treated and released.
SIRT will now investigate the conduct of police during the event, including the cause of injury and circumstances of the man’s arrest. A public report will be issued within 90 days.
