The time is coming for Saskatoon residents when you will be able to choose from a small, medium or large-sized garbage bin. Administration will present a report to the Environment, Utilities and Corporate Services Committee on Tuesday, with details on cart size options, timelines and proposed rates for the garbage utility next year. That’s when garbage services shift from property taxes to a utility model.
Director of Water and Waste Operations, Brendan Lemke, says a fixed utility rate of about $9.92 per month will be in place for all with curbside garbage collection until the cart swaps are completed. The variable utility rate won’t be implemented until mid-year. The proposed rate for the large bins, which are what households have now is $10.58. A medium-sized cart would be $7.05 and a small cart, $3.73. A process for property managers and condo boards to manage bulk requests is being developed.
small (120 L – 135L) cart – $3.73, medium (240 L) – $7.05 and large (360 L) – $10.58
