In the legislature Tuesday, the NDP raised the issue of nearly 100 seniors who have been moved out of Pioneer Village in Regina.

Opposition critic Danielle Chartier says the housing complex needs serious repair work and she is worried about future long-term care housing.

“It is clear that the situation of Pioneer Village is critical. The impact on residents, their families, and the staff are significant. With no action from the SaskParty government to this point and no funding for a new facility in this year’s budget, can the minister explain how this situation is going to be fixed?”

Health minister Jim Reiter says the facility was inherited from the city in 2009 and needed significant maintenance. So far, he says the province has spent 12 million dollars and a mold issue recently got worse. Reiter says the Saskatchewan Health Authority is relocating 94 residents and ministry recommendations on the facility will be forthcoming this summer. (CKRM)
