Two people are facing numerous traffic, weapon, identity theft, and drug trafficking related charges after refusing to stop for police Sunday morning.
At 7:30 a.m., officers were called to a potential impaired driver in a restaurant drive-thru in the 3500 block of 8th Street East.
Officers attempted a traffic stop on McKercher Drive, but the driver refused to stop and attempted to flee at a high rate of speed. The vehicle, a stolen Ford F-150, was found abandoned in an alley in the 400 block of Rutherford Crescent. Police say both the suspected driver and passenger were seen walking nearby and were taken into custody without further incident.
The male driver was believed to be under the influence of an intoxicant, and a knife was taken from the woman. Officers say they found illicit drugs in the pair’s possession including prepackaged methamphetamine and fentanyl. Various baggies, cell phones and a scale were also found inside of a backpack. Several sets of keys, garage door openers, identification documents and bank cards that did not belonging to the suspects were also discovered.
A 34-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman are both charged with Possession of Fentanyl for the Purpose of Trafficking and Possession of Methamphetamine for the Purpose of Trafficking. The woman is also charged with Possession of a Dangerous Weapon. The man is facing seven additional offences including dangerous and impaired driving-related charges, Evade Police, Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000 and Possession of Identity Documents Relating to Another Person.
