Throughout the summer, the Saskatoon RCMP have received multiple reports of a phone call where an alleged RCMP member calls and asks for money.
The Saskatoon RCMP is reminding the public to be vigilant when receiving unsolicited text messages or phone calls, even if the caller identifies as being a police officer, as Saskatchewan RCMP will never call the public to demand money.
Saskatoon RCMP encourage the public to never provide personal information or money to the scammer, ask the caller questions such as ‘who are you? where are you calling from?’, and document the responses.
RCMP says it is crucial to report all crimes in your area to your local police as soon as possible, as it helps them identify crime trends and assist any potential victims. Crimes can also be reported to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
