The Saskatoon Fire Department responded to a call about a power pole that had caught on fire.
At 10:28 Monday morning, one engine, a brush truck, a tanker truck and one battalion chief were dispatched south of Cartwright Street by the Willows Golf Course after the 9-1-1 call. Upon arriving, fire crews found a utility power pole on fire, and SaskPower was requested to attend. The SFD crew cut the barbed wire fence surrounding the pole in order to access it, SaskPower de-energized it, and fire crews were able to extinguish the fire. No one was injured. SFD wants to remind everyone that if a fire involving a power line is discovered, stay far away from the energized utility pole and wires, as they may still be energized and call 9-1-1 immediately.
The fire damage estimate is not known at this time.
