A Regina man is being charged with extortion following an investigation of an incident that occurred at the beginning of this year.

In January, an elected provincial government official told Regina police that he was approached by the suspect who asked him to support him in a local political election process. When the official refused, the suspect threatened to cause harm to both his personal and professional life.

As a result, thirty-six-year-old Harpinder Singh Bajwa is being charged with extortion and will make his first court appearance this afternoon at 2:00pm. The investigation is ongoing.
