Farmers and ranchers across Saskatchewan will have additional opportunities to move their product in another marketplace thanks to the continued funding of Ag-West Bio from the provincial and federal governments.

Through the Sustainable Canadian Agriculture Partnership, $9.5 million over the next five years will be awarded to Ag-West Bio for their work in providing support to companies on the path to commercialization. Provincial Agriculture Minister David Marit says the investment will not only fund the organization’s five-year plan to promote agriculture biosciences, but it will also attract bright minds to the province. People who want to do research on agricultural topics such as biotechnology, machinery or plant breeding will be drawn to the province in hopes of contributing.

Marit adds that Ag-West Bio is a globally recognized company and has generated returns of just under $150 million in the last 10 years.

The Sustainable Canadian Agriculture Partnership is a five-year, $3.5 billion investment by Canada’s federal, provincial and territorial governments that supports Canada’s agri-food and agri-products sectors. It includes $1 billion in federal programs and activities and a $2.5 billion commitment that is cost-shared 60 per cent federally and 40 per cent provincially and territorially for.
