Heavy rain and even snow at higher elevations in western Alberta will create higher flows on the North Saskatchewan River by the weekend and into the middle of next week.
The Saskatchewan Water Security Agency indicates peak flows are expected to reach the Alberta/Saskatchewan border by Friday. Those flows are forecast to reach highs at North Battleford sometime on Saturday, Borden on Monday, and Prince Albert by about next Wednesday, June 28th.
Water levels on the North Saskatchewan River are expected to rise about two metres from existing levels—but will be slightly lower than the peaks observed one year ago.
While flooding is not expected at this time, there could be the possibility of localized issues affecting irrigators, ranchers, ferry operators and recreational users.
Reservoirs downstream at Codette Lake and Tobin Lake will be lowered by SaskPower to absorb the higher flows.
The Water Security Agency will monitor conditions and provide another update on Thursday.
