Prior to 2020, the Saskatoon Exhibition usually kicks off with a parade. After taking a couple years off due to the pandemic, event organizers were hoping that the parade would happen this year, however, it looks like they will have to wait until 2024.
Susan Kuzma, manager of signature events at Prairieland, says the parade used to run along Spadina and through Saskatoon’s Downtown. This year, due to the construction going on downtown, a route for the parade to follow was unable to be made. She adds that they even considered taking the parade through Riversdale to avoid downtown, however construction in that area was a tough obstacle to overcome.
After much deliberation and attempts to find a workable route, it was decided that the parade would be postponed for another year. Kuzma says planning for next year’s parade will start early and might even include asking the City to plan construction around the parade date. Although visitors won’t get to see the parade, several other new activities are being added to the Saskatoon Ex schedule this August including The FireGuy Show, Aces Flying Pig Races, SuperDogs, West Coast Lumberjack Show, and a Mardi Gras Parade every night at 6:00pm.
