To honour the land that is expected to house the Downtown Event Centre and Entertainment District, ceremonialists representing the main Indigenous cultural groups on Treaty 6 Territory held a pipe ceremony Friday morning.
Representatives from the main partners in the project attended the ceremony near the intersection of Pacific Avenue and 23rd Street. These partners include City Council, TCU Place, Midtown Plaza, Administrative Steering Committee, DEED Advisory Group, and SaskTel Centre. This was the first of several more ceremonies that will take place to mark different stages of the project.
Mayor Charlie Clark stated that it was not a groundbreaking ceremony, instead it was “a ceremony to help us work together in a good way and build a city that acts on Truth and Reconciliation.”
