The Memory Trail was officially unveiled at Watrous Thursday morning.
Local businessman Ron Ediger of Melron Services built and funded the trail, and he says its significance reverberates personally for him, after losing his wife in June 2020.
He says the idea of the 3 km trail was to bring Watrous and Manitou together.
“Basically the Rotarians did a trail, a walk around trail on the north side of Watrous – town – to the cemetery which is three-and-a-half kilometres from town. And then there was nothing adding on to the village here up to Manitou. Then I decided to build an extension to add on to the Rotary Trail.”
The Watrous Rotary Club, the RM of Morris, communities of Watrous and Manitou Beach and four families in the community donated benches along the trail. Rick and Margaret McDonald also donated a portion of land so the trail could be completed.
