With the May long weekend upon us, the Saskatchewan All-Terrain Vehicle Association reminds everyone to Ride Safe, Ride Smart this weekend and all summer long.
General Manager John Meed has a few tips, including never driving while impaired. Like any other vehicle, it is illegal to operate an ATV while under the influence. Make sure you have properly fitting equipment, including a helmet, eye protection, gloves, a long-sleeved shirt and long pants. Meed adds that before heading out, it’s a good idea to have a safety plan. That means letting somebody know where you are going, designating someone as an emergency contact and carrying a first aid kit and a cell phone.
Please keep in mind that riders without a driver’s licence, including those 12-15, must complete an approved safety course or be supervised by someone who has had their drivers’ licence for at least a year to legally operate an ATV.
