Evacuation orders have been lifted in Saskatchewan after a fire that forced residents in La Loche and nearby First Nations out of the community on Friday. And while residents started coming home Sunday evening and Monday morning, the latest update from the Government of Saskatchewan indicates more fires have sparked in Saskatchewan.
The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency says as of late Monday morning there are 19 wildfires with seven not contained. There have been 91 wildfires to date this year and 49 is the five year average.
As well, Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement this morning for Buffalo Narrows and Peter Pond Lake and La Loche and Clearwater River Provincial. Park with smoke causing poor air quality and reduced visibility in several areas.
Alberta’s premier declared a provincewide state of emergency over the weekend, as emergency crews battle more than 100 wildfires — with over thirty of them classified as out of control.
