CAA is honoring students in over 100 Saskatchewan schools for their work as school zone traffic patrollers.
Almost 4,000 students volunteer for the CAA School Safety Patrol Program. To commemorate their work, Education Minister Dustin Duncan declared May as CAA School Safety Month in Saskatchewan.
Angel Blair, Senior Communications Specialist for CAA, says on top of that, each of the schools participating will receive their choice of a pizza party, bowling party, or a movie night, to celebrate a job well done.
The young leaders protect crosswalks, assist people in crossing the street, and keep everyone safe on their journey to and from school, sometimes in very cold weather. Blair says they also learn valuable skills like time management, leadership, empathy, and how important it is to be a part of something bigger.
Free training and equipment are provided to schools who wish to apply for the School Safety Patrol Program, and all they have to do is contact CAA and apply.
