The 2023 Saskatchewan Association of Chiefs of Police Firearm Amnesty resulted in 268 firearms being surrendered.
The program ran from March 20 to April 9 and in addition to the firearms 4,762 rounds of ammunition were also turned in.
The amnesty allows residents to turn in unwanted or replica firearms and ammunition without fear of being charged for unauthorized possession or careless storage.
The breakdown of how many were turned in to different agencies is as follows: 114 to the Saskatoon Police Service; 40 to the Regina Police Service, 81 to Saskatchewan RCMP; 24 to the Regina Police Service, three to Weyburn’s Police Service and six to the Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety.
In 2022, 241 firearms were surrendered during the amnesty program.
