Humane Canada is pleased with a section of the federal budget that not many may not be aware of. CEO Barbara Cartwright says it includes long awaited provisions to ban cosmetic testing on animals. She believes the framework in the Budget Bill, if passed, would prohibit testing cosmetics on animals in Canada; selling cosmetics that rely on animal testing to establish the product’s safety, with some exceptions; and false or misleading labelling pertaining to the testing. In its place, Cartwright says, coming up with non-animal alternatives for all types of testing should be a shared responsibility between testing companies and government.
