The Official Opposition calls on the Sask Party government to nix the idea of a Saskatchewan Revenue Agency. Finance Critic, Trent Wotherspoon doesn’t believe it’s feasible. He stated during Question Period, “The costs of collection and auditing for the provincial government will be over $10 million per year and the cost to local businesses being forced to file their taxes twice in a more complex system will cost another $16 million a year.”
Finance Minister Donna Harpauer says there have been instances when they have wanted to make tax changes, but they are denied by the Canada Revenue Agency, so they are exploring the idea of a Saskatchewan Revenue Agency, but nothing is set in stone and it is a few years down the road.
