It has not been a good week for Chinese-based TikTok as the popular app is being pulled from many government issued devices across the country.
The federal government issued a ban on Tuesday citing ongoing privacy concerns and Saskatchewan followed on Wednesday.
“Following discussions with the federal Chief Information Officer and the provincial Information and Privacy Commissioner, the Government of Saskatchewan is banning the TikTok application from all government-owned devices pending the results of the federal threat assessment,” the provincial government said in a news release.
TikTok has long denied any connection to the Chinese government, but there are concerns about what the company does with data collected from the app, which is very popular with teenagers and even millennials.
