Environment Canada has issued extreme cold warnings covering almost all of Saskatchewan, except for the southwest corner. That’s because of overnight lows in the minus 30s combined with wind chill of -40 or below. In the far north, the windchill is expected to be between -45 and -50.
Environment Canada warns that frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill and reminds pet owners that if it’s too cold for you outside, it’s too cold for your pets.
Just for comparison’s sake, looking at the average temperature for February 1st in Saskatoon – the high is around -11 and the low around -24. Our forecast low tonight with windchill is -48. February 1st, 1954 was the warmest at 6.7 degrees and in 1947 the low was -45.6.
