In football lingo fitting of the Grey Cup Festival, the Regina Police Service is reminding residents and visitors about property crime interception, or what is usually known as crime prevention. The Police Service says property crimes like vehicle thefts and thefts from vehicles are usually crimes of opportunity, so safeguarding your vehicle and the property inside is a way to intercept that crime.
Tips from Regina Police include not leaving your car running unattended, with keys in the ignition and making sure the doors are locked after parking your car. Never leave a wallet or purse in your car when you leave. Credit or debit cards could be used immediately, especially if you have the “tap” function on your cards. The Regina Police Service advises to put a little crime prevention into your daily plans to help make Grey Cup Week safe, friendly and fun.
– Don’t leave your car running, unattended, with keys in the ignition. That’s like an invitation to a would-be thief.
– When you park your car, take a few seconds to look around. Remove items of value from plain view. Even everyday items like sunglasses, spare change or a garage door opener might be “of value” to someone so, remove even the smaller, ordinary items.
– When you leave your parked car, make sure the doors are locked.
– Never leave a wallet or purse in your car when you leave. Your credit or debit cards could be used immediately, especially if you have a “tap” function on your cards.
– If possible, park in well-lit, well-travelled areas. If you see suspicious activity, call The Regina Police Service. If you see a crime-in-progress, call 9-1-1.
